So Kyle and I sat down one day and thought about how immortals are split into races now, ie. angels, devils, fey, daemons and daevas (previous named avians it was an artistic choice to use daeva instead).
We came to some pretty revolutionary conclusions when we back tracked through the immortal storyline, so I thought I'd share them with you before I put them into any solid informative post to be used for a reference by new members. So here goes!
We were discussing my idea of how at one time the immortals split off into clans, which then became the races of today Angels, Fey and Devils being the main three of course. So we came to the conclusion that at some point all immortals had to come from the same source race, which we determined had to be the Daevas because they had remained secluded in the creator's realm by themselves and so had remained pure.
Now this kind of led us to other revelations about immortal forms, you know those nasty true forms that mortals can't look upon without popping like a balloon. We basically made the connection that all immortals had wings and despite these wings being different and varied even among their own kind in some cases, it was clearly a common feature that likely was due to a common ancestry.
If we then take into account that pure immortal bloodlines who were not ascended all have distinctly feathered wings with only the colour of the feathers varying dependant upon race, it makes that common ancestry even more clear. This led to the conclusion that in their true forms, all immortals must look bird-like to some degree again.
Angels would look the most Daeva but would glow with a brilliant divine light, fey would look falcon or hawk-like in more earthy colours and likely even with plants growing on their wings and in their feathers, devils would look be crow-like with deep foreboding red eyes and giving off a dark aura that likely consumes the immediate area.
Now remember that they are still humanoid, so all of these forms would still have arms, legs, hands albeit talon'd ones, talon'd feet and so on. But we came to this conclusion after much brainstorming on the matter, the reason for the appearance change among the three main races of course is simple: seclusion.
Initially, when they were sealed in the immortal realm they broke up into clans, the angel clan, the devil clan, the fey clan and the daemon clan who were fanatical followers of Baelze and his ideals still. When the continent broke into the three separate landmasses that are now the heavens, yggdrasil and underworld the clans were secluded from one another and evolved in solitude to take on new forms to adapt to their new environments.
At the top in the bright light, the angels grew to be bright. In the middle, just right the fey grew to be natural and earthy and at the bottom in the darkness the devils also grew to the dark like their surroundings. The daemon clan as we know were booted into hell by the devil clan and they don't much matter, though the original daemon immortals who still live would also be bird-like, though I expect mutated and bastardised.
So anyway, this is my little go on about immortal evolution, comment and ask questions if you like.
