The barricades lined all roads in and out of the city. The rioters were using anything they could against the government forces manning the positions, using alcohol with burning rags as makeshift grenades and even fireworks as artillery. The people were rising up against the totalitarian rule of their leaders, stripped of their rights and common dignity they had had enough and across the planet they stood together but here at the heart was the worst of the chaos, the capital city.
The crowds scattered as gunfire filled the air and unarmed civilians fell under a hail of bullets, which saw other civilians start attacking the military forces trying to put them down like common animals. The violence spread through the city as government forces dropped in from hovering airships, as government forces fell some of the common folk armed themselves and it turned into a true battle. The number of armed civilians to soldiers was severely outnumbering however, as many still only had whatever they could pick up and throw.
Quietly he strode through the carnage, apparently unseen by those fighting in the streets. Vehicles and buildings burned as the military used explosives and the civilians their makeshift pipe bombs. It was sad that none of them knew the true evil that lay behind it all, the same evil the government forces fought for and the civilians fought against. They hadn't a clue what their leader planned, just how much power had corrupted him and what lengths he would go to never to have to relinquish it.
He came to a halt in the centre of a crossroads in the middle of the city, the long shaft of a weapon forming in hand and then a large scythed blade tearing out of the end of it in a sickly display as the shaft of the weapon seemed to bleed as though alive. People saw him now, some of them stopped to see someone with such a weapon, several of the soldiers fired upon him but their bullets did naught and merely crumpled against his skin before falling to the floor with only holes left behind in his clothes. A tear drifted down his cheek, knowing that they could only see him now because their end was seconds away.
There was a brilliant flash of light in the distance, beautiful in the way if filled the night sky and illuminated even over the flames that now gripped the city. Then the shock wave followed, the screams subsided as life on the planet was extinguished all at once in an explosions one hundred thousand times the blast of a nuclear missile. The scent of burning flesh followed as the planet became an arid waste, the cities empty of life except for the blackened skeletons that remained and high in his tower of glory their leader sat dead but satisfied he had ruled to the end of days.
The sound of hooves filled the air, echoing across the planet as the horsemen rode, heralding the end of this planet as they had so many others before. Seth raised the scythe into the air and there was a deep swirl of energy, the howl of the dead filled the air as the souls of the city were reaped, civilian and soldier alike and sent to the vaults of purgatory to have their souls judged by the Goddess of Death. In other cities the other reapers did the same, even as the planet began to crack beneath their feet as the core had been made unstable by the weapon.
Another moment and the planet collapsed in on itself and then a massive explosion followed that tore through the planets two moons and filled space with naught but a new asteroid field. The horsemen and reapers stood together upon the largest asteroid and observed the belt, the people of the planet had no idea their ruler was a Strigoi and nor did the immortals stood there now realize the true significance of this planet - the only inhabited world in a collection of six.
"Senseless," Seth said, a hiss of disgust in his voice.
