Another planet blinked out of existence, another whole population destroyed in moments. But this time it was different, the world itself still had structure, you could still walk across its surface and see the ruins of the civilization that had once been there. This was different to the small planet recently destroyed in the Lasina galaxy, that one had been completely obliterated and yet there was a familiarity here, a mark that covered the planet's surface that had also scorched the skies of the other lost world just before it met its untimely end.
The Reaper of this planet had called in specialist help after she had done reaping the souls of the populace, this warranted investigation and so Seth arrived amidst the ruins of the one of the planet's many cities. He wandered quietly through the empty streets, taking in the buildings that had been left untouched, it was eerie here like a ghost town on a massive scale. Silently he flicked the lid of a lighter up and down, he didn't smoke but his father had given him the lighter when he was young and the action helped him to think and keep a clear head in the face of such things.
"Prince Seth'ryal." A woman's voice attracted his attention nearby, his fellow Reaper stepped out of an alley, she looked haunted by the loss of a whole planet and who could blame her.
Reida was beautiful like many immortals, she was clearly of Devil descent from the purple in her eyes, with long flowing black hair that was loose and reached down to the middle of her back and pale skin that accented it. Her build was slender, her chest not too big nor too small, arguably she was the perfect mate for a Devil. Seth however showed no interest at all in that sort of thing, keeping his eyes cool and professional while toying with the lighter in his hand.
"Keep your wits, Reida. We deal with mass death every day." He said, snapping the lid of the lighter shut and pocketing it again inside his jacket. "Tell me what you saw happen here."
"The mark burned into the western continent, it appeared first in the sky at night." She hesitated, taking a breath to collect her nerves and stood tall, continuing with conviction. "The people had never seen anything like it, then over night fire spread from it but it touched none of the buildings, it came down and it turned the population to ash a bit at a time. It happened slowly enough for people ahead of it to panic and try to out run it, but none of them managed to get far enough away."
When she was done Seth turned his head and looked up at the empty sky, the mark was gone but he knew it scorched the land not far from the city, this was the closest populated area to the epicentre. Two worlds which were unremarkable in that they were hardly known on the stage of inter-galactic politics, in fact the first world hadn't even been capable of interstellar travel yet, but now both were connected by a single extraordinary event and a mark that nobody seemed to recognise even among the divine order.
"I want to get to the bottom of this before another world burns, put the other Reapers onto investigating this between their other duties." He ordered, wandering over to what looked like some form of datapad and picking it up, looking at it it seemed to be a newspaper of some sort. "The planet was peaceful, the other one was in turmoil. No connection there."
Reida moved to pick up a similar datapad which seemed to be the same thing, the news was talk of things you would expect in a time of peace, nothing to do with any form of fighting in fact or civil unrest. She put the datapad back down, frowning at the small remnant of ashes she had found it next to, the wind had carried the ash of the dead along by now but a remnant still remained behind to show that a person had once stood there.
"I can do an aerial sweep of the planet to see if there are signs of outside influence," she said, then took off with a spread of her raven feathered wings into the sky leaving Seth to muse over things in the city.
