He has a wicked and some might think grim sense of humour, but like any mortal out of their depth facing the evils and beings immortals consider common place if you can't laugh you'll go mad.
History:
Michael's life in universe 246 was the definition of perfectly normal. Before the events that would change his entire world he was a shopkeeper, working in a small village shop where he lived and was considered to be the 'handsome young man' by the aging female population and the 'tall, dark hunk' to the admittedly small number of younger ones. In this sleepy little village in Kent, he grew up a simple man with simple tastes and to some perhaps a simple and naive view of the harsh world beyond his home.
Little did the young man realize his heritage or the heavy burden it carried, not until it was much too late for the revelation to help those he cared for. On the eve of his twentieth birthday, when he finally left his teens and youth behind tragedy struck in the form of the brutal murder of his parents in the small cottage at the end of the lane where nothing so disturbing was ever expected to happen. What the police kept from the village locals were the cultish markings left on the walls, ceilings and floors of the cottage in the blood and entrails of his parents.
But that didn't stop the people seeing him differently. He was with a girl that night and she was his only alibi, yet she was reluctant to say she had been with him because her parents were traditionalists and so he was the number one suspect as there had been no signs of forced entry into the house despite the state inside it. Michael met a cold reception in the village from then on, without the evidence to convict him of the gruesome crime he certainly had no hand in anyway he was allowed his freedom but life at home would never be the same.
After a month of this suspicious treatment Michael simply disappeared from the sleepy village in Kent and moved into a fairly uncomfortable flat in a run down area of London, a culture shock that he was not prepared for hit him and it was then that the visions and telekinetic outbursts began. He would shake the hands of prospective employers and see their dirty secrets, or mundane moments of their life play out in the brief moment before he took his hand back. Objects would move as if with a will of their own when he was particularly emotional, the memories of his dead parents and the feeling of betrayal from the people he had grown up around being most prominent.
As the years went by Michael found himself more and more weary at the world. His strange powers had grown with him and to a degree he could control them now, though he still had moments where they would overwhelm him. He was in his late twenties when he met a strange man who seemed no older than he was and the young woman accompanying him, who when he had first met her had been sure was no older than fourteen but turned out to be eighteen or more. The man named Seth and woman named Lilly told him of his heritage, that he was descended from humans who fought alongside a group called Dragos Midnight against a great evil and it was the source of his powers.
He was naturally reluctant to trust them until Seth showed him his true colours as a divine being, a mere glimpse into the devil's mind and his trust in Seth soared. He was invited to join the newly forming Midnight Society, a new order created from the remnant of Dragos Midnight to continue the fight that had lost centuries earlier in what he learned to be the battle of Bermuda which had created the Bermuda triangle which was caused by the energies that were still volatile in the area the battle had taken place. Over the next few years Michael would learn to fully control his powers, becoming the most gifted psychic in the Midnight Society and one of Seth's closest lieutenants.
Max was in his early thirties when everything came down around them. Earth found itself under siege by Baelze, the foe that Dragos Midnight had failed to destroy at Bermuda and for some reason he returned, encasing the planet in what was essentially a ceiling of magma rock to stop anyone being able to escape his armies attacked Earth's nations who for the first time in history banded together. Seth contacted all of them and blessed their weapons so that they could damage the daemon army that struck at them, but the final battle would take place in the city of Tokyo in Japan.
Isaan, Seth's father and the former leader of Dragos Midnight was alive, having been presumed dead the whole time he was now in Tokyo and turning himself into a beacon to lure Baelze and his forces there. The Midnight Society formed portals and rushed there to Isaan's aid, Michael witnessed the emotional reunion of father and son before the battle began. The Midnight Society fought beside the animal spirits of planet Earth that had been roused by Isaan, led by the four great beasts of oriental mythology, the white tiger, the heavenly dragon, the fire bird and the mighty turtle.
Michael was on the frontline during the battle, the Midnight Society was manned mainly by mortals but they put up one hell of a fight against the daemon army, buying time for Isaan to fight and defeat Baelze. He would see horrors he never wanted to see that day, including the elder gods emerging to aid Isaan in the fight and the utter destruction of Earth at the hands of Baelze, before upon his death the elder gods put the planet back together again as though it had never been scarred by the battle and the unnatural ceiling that removed the sky crumbled away as Baelze's life left him.
It was during the battle that Michael found the strange artefact that would bring him to the Prime Universe, he pulled the pendant from a Daemon general named Makvhug who was killed during the battle. As he surveyed the cheers and joy from those around him at having won of the battle, Michael felt an empty feeling in his heart as he realised there was little he was going back to with the world returning to normal. Almost as though a higher power wanted to grant him freedom of his life on Earth he was given a vision of an ancient vessel left derelict on the planet, and he slipped away quietly from the festivities that night to seek it.
When he found it however he found that Seth was already where waiting for him, the pair exchanged words and Seth ever understanding allowed him to go, after branding words onto his upper back which he called a "message for the countless places you will visit." Michael boarded the ship and took off, and then he simply drifted off to sleep at the controls and when he awoke he found he was still over Earth and yet the ships computer insisted that several hundred years had passed and that they were not in their own universe.
Upon looking he found the pendant had gone, the sentient consciousness had entered the computer of his ship and explained all about where he was, how he had travelled to another reality entirely and that it had brought him there because he desired to be anywhere but home. The first thing Michael did was return to Earth to see just how different things were and sure enough, for the first time in over a decade he found himself looking upon the sleepy village in Kent. There he saw them, his parents alive and well back at the old cottage and yet there was a difference, there was no Michael but instead a daughter stood where he would have been.
Unsure of how to take this, he simply watched his parents from afar for a while until the sun began to fall and he returned to his ship. He set off into this new universe of his, to find out more about it and there was nobody here to stare at him disgusted by murders he did not commit, nor would that gun store in the middle of Kansas ever be able to explain how all of their weaponry and ammunition had just disappeared into thin air. Life was an adventure now and nearing his forties Michael had finally found a path he could dedicate himself to and that was perhaps the more liberating thing of all.
