"Kill her. Do it now. It would be so easy. Just do it. DO IT! KILL HER!"
"NO!"
Altieran stood up quickly, scattering the pile of books on the table in front of him to the corners of the room. Sweat dripped from his brow and ran down his face, mixing with the tears already streaming from his eyes. He looked across the table, and straight into two blue, piercing eyes. The every watchful eyes of his mother, Léona. She smiled as she stood up and walked around the table, taking her son in her arms.
"Oh son, shh. It will be alright. Mother's here now." her voice was calming, her motherly touch soothing. Altieran wept and burried his face into his mother's arms. "Come now, don't cry my sweet. How about we go outside for some fresh air?
"O...Ok." Altieran sniffed and followed his mother outside onto the balcony. His parents' chambers overlooked a long, flowing river which wound itself through the countryside, carving a bright blue scar into the green which surrounded it. Even from so far up, Altieran could see fish leaping to catch small flies, their reflections in the sunlight making them seem, for short moments at a time, like tiny stars. "M..mother, do I really have to go back to the Underworld? Why can't I stay here with you and father?"
Léona stood in silence for a few minutes, looking out over the countryside. Sometimes, Altieran wasn't sure she was even listening to him. She had a habbit of communicating with her brother from opposite ends of the universe and when she did, she would be completely unaware of anything else around her - not quite able to match the omnipresence of the Elder Gods. Eventually, she sighed and looked down at her son, trying to stay up-beat. He could see through her facade, even at such a young age. "You have to go back to the Underworld because...because it's...it's complicated, son. A matter for adults, nothing for you to trouble yourself with. Besides, who best to help you learn to control your Inner Devil but the God of Chaos himself? Don't you like spending time with Isaan?"
"I do! It's just that I hardly ever get to see you, or father. Couldn't you visit me more often? Or bring me here? It can't be so complicated you can't even see your own son.."
She smiled. "You'll understand some day, Altieran."
Altieran sighed, he knew there was no arguing with his parents' decisions. They always knew better. After a brief hug, Léona teleported Altieran back to his rooms in the Underworld. It was then that he let the beast inside him free.
His body shuddered, though he no longer felt any sort of sensation, his body given over to his Inner Devil. His hair fell from the band which tied it back, cascading over his face as the monster began to use his lungs to laugh. His eyes changed colour - from purple to red.
"Happy now?" Altieran spoke to his inner devil in his mind.
"Well no, not really. There's nobody around to kill!" the monster used his lips to smirk.
"Oh just punch a wall or something."
"Ok.
"What? Wait...NO! Not that one!"
His body moved towards the one wall he wished would have stayed intact today. His rooms were adjacent to the Underworld's throne room. No direct entrance connected them, but...well, this monster didn't need doors. His fist clenched, and before he could wrest control back from his Inner Devil, his hand punched the wall down. Lucky for him, his half brother was holding court that day. All of the "important" Lords and Ladies of the Underworld had gathered there to air grievances, dispute taxes and borders and all sorts of other political things. Their heads turned to see Altieran standing in the rubble, his breathing heavy, sweat dripping from his forehead, his hair a complete mess.
His eyes darted to the nearest guard, now drawing his sword as he approached him. Altieran's mouth formed a grin.
"Bad idea." he began to dart towards the guard, intent on ripping out his throat and using the sword to slaughter the rest of the court.
"Wrath!" Isaan's voice cut the air like a knife and sent Altieran hurtling back into a section of fully intact wall. Altieran regained control of his body just in time to fall unconcious.
"Altieran. Altieran, wake up."
"Ugh...what..where am I?"
"You're in your room, in the palace. That was some stunt you pulled in my throne room."
Altieran slowly opened his eyes. His head was swimming and he found it difficult to focus. Isaan sat at the foot of his bed, dressed all in black. Altieran started to get up, but Isaan raised his hand and shook his head.
"You've been unconcious for two days. I wouldn't recommend getting up so quickly."
"Two days?" Isaan nodded slowly. He stood up and began pacing around the room. Altieran rubbed his eyes and lay down again. The pair talked for some time about the scene Wrath had created in the throne room. Altieran had become quite the talking point amongst the "nobles" in the Underworld: an A'vron, unable to control his Inner Devil - such an embarrasment, some said. Some of the older devils felt pitty for the boy, knowing just who resided inside of him. Wrath, one of Baelze's children. Not exactly something you would wish on anyone.
"What should I do now? I mean...I can't exactly go out in public, can I?"
"Like hell you can't. We're going to continue as if nothing had ever happened. I'm going to keep training you, help you control him."
Altieran smiled at Isaan.
"Oh, and you're going to school. Starting tomorrow."
Altieran wished he was unconcious again.
It would be wrong to say that Altieran enjoyed his time at school. He found the classes boring, especially Ancient History. It was more like a religious semenar - the teacher barked on about how devils had to "Learn from the mistakes of their ancestors, and why they should be ever mindful of temptation, bla bla bla." He enjoyed his time spent with Isaan, and after a few months he began to feel like he had more control over Wrath than he had before. He learned to shut him out and how to regain control when Wrath took over. The only thing he couldn't quite master was how to find common ground with him. He knew that to truly master your Inner Devil, you must make peace with them and become like equals. The only thing Wrath respected was violence and hatred, two things which Altieran didn't exactly excell at.
"NO!"
